Vacancy filling
The company places information on free vacancies on its official website. If you liked the position, you can immediately apply for an interview on the website, and a recruitment manager will contact you. It’s very convenient, you don’t have to go to vacancy search sites if you want to work on Google.

The peculiarity of hiring employees is that during the interview the candidate communicates not only with the manager, but also with his potential colleagues. All Google employees are a team, and its members must feel connected with each other.

Often at the interview ask unusual questions. For example, for what kind of payment would you agree to wash all the windows in Seattle, why the manhole covers are round, how can the term “database” be explained to a 7-year-old child. The purpose of such questions is not to get the right answer (after all, for many of them the only right answer does not exist), but to identify how much the candidate can think creatively and find solutions in unusual situations.

The working process
Google is very free to work time employees. That is, each employee must work out the standard eight hours a day, but at what particular hours he will do it – he decides. Someone is comfortable working in the morning, someone in the evening. Nobody is following what employees are doing in the office. They can sit in the cafe for half a day or play the console. The main thing is the result of the work done, not its process.

Each employee can allocate the fifth part of his working time to his own projects. Of course, they should be related to his activities, but may not be included in the list of direct duties. Thanks to this principle, the Gmail service was once created.

All newcomers to the team undergo their first internship at the Dublin office. There they are told about everything that they will need during their work – corporate culture, organization of the work process, etc. In the Moscow office, it is also customary to contact each other on “you” and call the interlocutor only by name, without any middle names and respectful prefixes. And it doesn’t matter if you are talking with a colleague or with your boss. In terms of dress code, everything is also more than loyal – you can come to work in absolutely anything. Of course, in the framework of common sense and decency.

All Google employees have an event like TGIF (Thank God It’s Friday – “Thank God, it’s Friday.”) Every Friday evening, the team gets together, and with a glass of beer, wine or something else they share with each other the news from their professional world and discuss new projects and achievements for the week.

Office design
The office is based on the principle of “open space”. In each room, jobs are placed in a chaotic manner. Tables and chairs are everywhere of different heights and shapes, and everyone can choose the place that suits him. Each floor of the office is made in its own style. Since this is the Moscow office of Google, I wanted something genuinely Russian, and I must say, this is the wish of the employees themselves. For example, one floor is made in the style of the Moscow metro, the other – in the style of Russian fairy tales, films and cartoons.

There are many meeting rooms in the office – there employees can chat with each other or make appointments for guests. There are talks for one person – if you need to talk on Skype so that no one distracts or think in silence. The meeting rooms also have a thematic design, and their names are appropriate – for example, “Winnie the Pooh”, “Snake Gorynych”, “Vrungel”, “Postman Pechkin”, “38 parrots”, “Twelve chairs”, “Polyanka”, “ Metro Pushkinskaya ”and others.

Office catering
On Google, you will not find any paid dinners or vending machines with coffee or soda. The office has a wide variety of food, and it is free for all employees. On one of the floors there is a dining room “Samobranka”. And this name was chosen for a reason – there are always muesli, fruits, berries, different types of cereals, hamburgers, sandwiches, juices, coffee and so on. There is no ban on drinking alcohol in the office. In the fridges there is beer in the public domain, but none of the employees abuse it. Who wants to fully eat, also has this opportunity.

In addition to “Samobranki”, you can also have lunch at Lukomorye – this is a mini-cafe in the office. Here you can drink coffee and eat a chocolate bar or snack. Google is actively promoting the theme of healthy eating, and many employees adhere to this. On any food, you can see colored stickers that speak about the benefits and calories. The green sticker is the most dietary product, the yellow one is slightly more caloric, the red one is the most high-calorie one.

Recreation and entertainment
Those who decide to relax in the office or even sleep can do it. Some remain to work late, and they need a berth. You can relax your tired body with the help of a massage chair.

You can entertain yourself with video games, table tennis, going to the gym, chess, playing the guitar. They say that at one time employees even gathered in a music group, wrote songs and played their music in the office. Sports activities are supported by motivating posters, also the gym has a huge window through the wall through which you can see the very center of Moscow. There is also its own library, but books and video discs there are mainly only on professional topics. Periodically, staff is offered massage services from a professional masseur and yoga classes.

A Google employee shares her impressions of the office: “On the day the office opened, it was impossible to concentrate on work – everyone examined the design of each room, sat on all sofas in turn, tried all the food from the dining room. If someone thought that in Moscow there will never be such an excellent and creative office as in America, then you were mistaken, there he is! ”- software developer Anna Kondratyeva.
